I am getting my Jobo atl 2+ back in commission after almost 8 years of storage and notice that the battery is in need of replacement.

I am aware Jobo produced a service bulletin to undertake the replacement. As shown at:

http://www.jobo-usa.com/images/manuals/B011_ATL_backup_battery_replacement.pdf

I have no doubt that the part specified is no longer available and I was wondering the battery specification is. I do notice that the voltage of 3.6v is mentioned but nothing of the battery capacity and draw required.

The only battery I can think that might meet the specification is this:

Am I on the right path with this?

Thanks in advance

The ad says 1/2 AA which 1/2 the length of a standard AA. If it fits I'd GUESS it would work.
With the Lithiums I've used, higher capacity cells tend to increase in size very quickly

Key word is GUESS

I have been thinking of doing a retrofit of installing a standard AA size battery plug and just wire it in so I don't have to go through the disassembly process again.

Just for clarification: this cell is not a standard daily use Lithium cell, but works on a different chemistry. Thus the higher voltage.

Yes
I know that an "off the shelf" daily use Lithium cell won't work hence my post on a possible replacement. What I am after is who was the original manufacturer and the model # of the battery, from there I can work out a possible replacement. From looking at the service bulletin the only one I think that "might" meet the original specification of the battery in question, is the link that I posted in my original post.

The voltage (indicating the chemistry) together with the size indicate roughly the capacity. By your choice you will be close by.
Furthermore any of such variation will not have any practical effect.

In case you foresee storage again, use a larger model.

I would ask CatLabs here on APUG if they have the information.

That appears to be a very common type of battery once used in millions of Apple computers. However, unless you have experience reworking with printed circuit boards with plated through holes, I might just snip out the old battery, leaving most of the wire leads intact on the circuit board, then solder new battery to those stubs. Current draw is minuscule (the fact that it was soldered into place suggests that they expected it to last for years) so feel free to replace with any handy 3.6V lithium cell of roughly similar dimensions.

Something like the 1/2AA cells shown here (in axial lead form) ought to be pretty much an exact replacement:

Wasn't that easy?

Now if you had replace a NiCad pack that would be trickier: Probably wouldn't want to drop NiMH in it's place without some further modifications.

looks like you already got some good answers above, but just to chime in - there is a currently available replacement, with a very similar design (find it on Ebay), and is pretty close to be a drop in replacement. Voltage might vary slightly, but they work just fine.
