Just recieved a jobo atl/cpp2 unit and have no idea how to run it. Anyone have a manual or want to give a crash course in how to use it? Thanks lyle

Just don't ask me how to use it. I'm also here for the crash course. I got my CPP-2 for a song at eBay over a year ago and haven't used it since. Pro E6 Lab processing is still very alive in Los Angeles and very cheap.

Iwagoshi, What I have was from the US server in English. It was originally in html. Good I converted it to adobe pdf. I checked a while ago and it says bad request.

What i am finding hard to find is instructions to the atl-1/2 head unit on the cpp2

I currently use a Jobo CPP2 with an ATL-1 head. Great unit. Also have the manual, but its quite easy to use. What do you need to know?

I had my system for over a year now from eBay and only filled it with water and tested the functionality, temp, heater solenoid etc. and never developed anything. It all worked so far.

Question:

1. I was told that the developing instructions that came with the set of developer was based on Kodak Transparencies and I need to add 15% on 1st. developer time on Fuji Transparencies. How does that work?

2. It says on my Jobo pdf manual that all I need is to set the motor speed on "P" for 2500 and 2513 tank. Do you have a better suggestion?

3. I have a set of Arista Rapid E6 for learning reasons and I have two rolls of "exposed" one 35mm Fuji Sensia 100 and and one 35mm Provia 100. What is your recommended temperature?

I plan to do one each of the time to see room for improvement.

4. Do the Temperature and time also affect contrast like B&W film?

Try to find a copy of "The Rotary Processor manual" by John Tinsley pub by R Morgan Publishing its very informative

with respect to :
1. probably differences in formulation of the emulsion there are jobo data sheets dealing with the topic try
the jobo or tetenal website you need to look for processing e6 - extended first dec time is recommended by tetenal
2. "P" is recommended to avoid inconsistent development that the low speeds are suseptible to
3. the temperature is 38.5 there is no other but see the above text at pg 60 & 61
4. Yes see page 60 above for changes required to "push" or "pull"

re "arista" i think i have seen differing points of view re giving arista more time in the developer than kodak (sorry i cant
provide a link)

thing like i expected when i took them out of the drum - they are quite opaque and look like strong tea for several hours until the
emulsion had thoroghly dried also exposure makes a big difference

My rolls of Sensia and Provia are specimen shots and nothing of value. I've had it in the ref for 6 months.

Apologies for the late reply. Busy week and weekend. I should have noted in my post that I only process BW films with my ATL-1. I did process a roll or 2 many years ago with great success. The film was Kodak, if I remember correctly, and I used Kodak E6 chemistry, strictly following Jobo's process recommendations. I do have the manual, also the collection of all the issues of 'The Journal of Rotary Processing' (from fall 1984 - fall 1988) and the process for Kodak E6 is as follows.

Kodak E6 process (per Jobo recommendation, summer 1990)
temp 38C
prewarm 5:00
1st dev 6:30
rinse 2:30
reversal 2:00
color dev 4:00
conditioner 2:00
bleach 6:00
fixer 4:00
final rinse 6:00
stabilizer 1:00

1) It is recommended that an increase of 15% (1st dev) is recommended for all Fuji E6 films with the exception of Astia. Astia gets a 7% increase (or is it 8%?). Simply increase 6:30 (Kodak 1st dev time) by the appropriate %.
2) For 1500 and 2500 series reels/tanks, the recommended speed is 'P'.
3) Keep at 38C as recommended
4) Temp and 1st dev time would definitely affect contrast. Like I said, keep the temp at 38C. Play with the 1st dev time for pushing/pulling (I do not have recommended times for this so experimentation is in order).

So that's 7.5min for all Fuji Transparencies and 7min for Fuji Astia in 1st developer.
I have a roll of Astia here and I'll do some specimen shots this weekend.

Now does anyone know where I can find the new link to JOBO Quarterly? I bookmarked the archives link but like the other jobousadarkroom.com links, it's dead.

I converted this thread and others to pdf and update as it progress.

BTW, since we both shoot a Nikon F3, don't forget to convert to pdf this F3 manual below. I still have my original printed manual, but I'm sure that the tiny F3HP LCD in the VF hasn't faded but my memory already faded where I stashed it. This helped me when I forgot how to load film on my F3HP, since I didn't use it for a long time.
