Hi,

I've just developed 6 sheets of 5x4 in my Jobo expert 3006 drum using 650ml of developer (XTOL 1+1, 325ml dev, 325ml water.)

One of the negs has a streak along it where it looks like the developer hasn't evenly reached the neg. I pour in the dev as quickly as the lift will allow and load the negs with emulsion facing towards the centre of the drum.

Am I using enough solution to cover all the negs or is more required?

No pre soak, agitation at approx 50rpm, CPP-2.

Thanks
Ed

Hi,

I use my 3010 (the 10-sheet version of your tank) on a manual roller base, and I was told when I got it that I was supposed to spin it at 60 to 75 RPM. Also, according to JOBO, you should use at least 50 mL per sheet of 4x5 black and white. That would give you a 300 mL minimum for your batch. JOBO state the maximum capacity of the tank as 1 L, but perhaps using over double the required amount is too extreme. Perhaps it is too much developer combined with too few RPMs, and the solution is not taking on enough force during rotation to make it all the way to the back of each cavity.

Thanks,
I'll try a faster rotating speed on the next batch and see what happens. I had it on 3 (meaningless figure as I guess all Jobos are slightly different...)
Don't really want to put 1L of dev in in case it overloads the motor.

What Keith and 2F said. With replenished XTOL use 100% of the time [Ilford takes the time of 8 minutes @ 20 degrees C and adds one minute for HP5+], no presoak.

Well so far so good, just done 6 sheets of Tri-X and all fine with 600ml (300+300) upping the speed to just under 4 on my CPP-2.

Thanks!!
