I just processed my first batches of 8x10 tonight in the jobo 3005. I was getting a weird, un-fixed stain towards the top middle of my negs. This stain came out with some more fix in a tray, however it may result in some uneveness. I was leaving the film up towards the tops of the tubes as I do with 4x5 and the 3010 drum, should the film be more towards the bottom of the 3005? Please help. I went so nuts that I went out after 2 batches, made another holder's worth of pictures and had the same trouble.

How much solution are you using? Sounds like maybe not enough. Are you running this on a processor or by hand? Is the tank level?

I've never seen un-fixed areas using 3005 on a Unicolor base. I use 1500ml of fix. But I have seen small areas were the film backing wasn't removed. Just along the edge someplace. I was washing the film in the drum but started doing the Permawash and washing steps using tanks and hangers. This always cleared the problem off.

I use the Beseler base as well and push negs all the way down. I'll have to double check but I think I'm only using 1000ml and never had a problem.

Perhaps it's an agitation issue. What exactly is your rotation protocol?

You might try using *less* solution. 1.5L (5 x 300mL) is a pretty heavy load, perhaps it has some adverse effect on the circulation pattern when using the Beseler base.

I've never had a problem with clearing in any of the Expert film drums, including the 3005, regardless of whether the film is pushed all the way to the bottom. But I'm using them on a Jobo.
