The instruction sheet that accompanies the 2840 print drum tells us that to load more than two sheets of paper simultaneously, use the winged dividers and, for 5x7" paper, put them on ribs 1, 2, and 4.

That's all well and good, but where along the depth of the drum should the dividers be placed, and how does one get the lower pair of papers underneath the wings? I cut down some no-longer-usable 8x10" paper to 5x7 for practice. In the light I can insert a pair of papers and then put on the winged dividers. But, it would take a long time to try to do this in the dark. There must be a secret to loading the drums with this small size paper.

I'd like to learn because I just bought a box of 100 sheets of Forte multigrade FB in this size.

TIA,

Rich

Easy to do, hard to describe. Set the wings ~5" up the tube (also, reach inside the tube all the way to the bottom and feel the little ridges right at the bottom that keep the edge of the paper off the true bottom of the tank) About 5-1/8" is right. Now insert one piece of paper along and under the edge of the rib and push down on the opposite side of the wing so the paper can pass under the wing on the side it is on. Repeat the same action on the other side.

You'll find that you have to clean and rinse the tank very carefully to prevent stains on FB.

Dividers? I don't think Jobo has sold those things for a long time. I've never used them.

The dividers are very useful little things, especially when you're doing four 5x7" E6 sheets in a 2840 tank. I'm glad I have them, and dread to think what the result might be if one of the films should slip...

I've never had paper move. If anything it's too tight. I guess film is a touch smaller but it still doesn't seem to move.

13x18cm film is very tight, but 5x7" is quite loose. 5x7" paper is the same size as 13x18cm film...

Tim,

I practiced based on what you wrote and kept knocking the winged separators off the ridges. So, I did a Google search and found the Jobo web page that has so much more information than they print on the multilanguage sheet that comes with the tank.

My problem was trying to get the slide-on dividers (plain or winged) to hold the paper. That's not their role. The paper is held between the ridges, and the wings serve only to keep the papers separate from each other. Turns out I was working too hard with 8x10 and 11x14 paper, too.

Now I know, and it's a heck of a lot easier when done correctly!

Thanks,

Rich
