I have a bunch of 1501 reels and a 2500 series tank. Aside from the smaller reel diameter why can't you use them in a 2500 tank? The center cores are the same. Jobo says never to do this but I am curious to here why.

There is no reason not to do this, but you will have to load the tanks with alot more chemicals then originally intended in order to have the entire reel soak in fluids.
This will mean that with the larger drums you will easily surpass the recommended max capacity of chems stress on the motor.
If you are doing inversion, or rotating manually, there is not reason not to do this other then the extreme waste of chemicals.

I did this for my first E6 dev trial. Ended up stressing the motor with filling 500ml of chemicals so that at the end of the day the motor was stalling repeatedly. Second problem, I still used the recommanded extra time dev for reusing the chems thus ending up with good first pass results, but overdevelopped slides for the second and third batch. Didn't realise the 500ml wouldn't exhaust and oxidize as much as with the standard 300ml. Now I have bought the appropriate reels.
