Hi all,
I'm currently writing a book about Jerry Uelsmann (his 50s, 60s, and 70s work) and wonder if there are any members who have Uelsmann related material, anecdotes, information, etc etc to share with me? Anything is of interest.
Pity that Uelsmann's print prices have dramatically dropped ever since seemingly every junior high student on the planet learned how to do comp images using common software instead. The pity is, that not many people have seen the real deal done in the darkroom by a master like Uelsmann, and just how seamless, and full of subtle tonality and crisp whimsical irony his work really was. I applaud you for bringing him back to attention.
Moa, thank you for this: Uelsmann presented Adams as the “Dektol in the tray of fine art photography”,2 and when Adams came up to thank him for his introduction he said: “God created the earth in six days, and on the seventh day he looked down on the earth and thought ‘Maybe some things need to be changed’. So he created Jerry Uelsmann”.
from your paper. I enjoyed it
A very important gallery that exhibits/sells Uelsmann's prints is in Tucson AZ. I've seen many of Uelsmann's prints there. whereyou can see them in context with prints by many other great photographers. Terry Etherton personally his photographers.
