From the article......."Mr. Parent developed a signature technique that allowed him to work without flashbulbs, which performers found distracting. It gave his work a dark and intimate feel'.

Does anybody know what his technique was.?
Thank You

I think we could only guess. But my guess is some sort of hot light that is on for the duration of the gig. I would think musicians are used to bright lights on stage. But they're sure amazing photos.

......... But they're sure amazing photos.
The are Fabulous.!
I see .....
Monk
Mingus
Parker
(pardon me of i spell their name wrong)
Not sure who the drummer is....Roy Haynes maybe.?
Somebody needs to, or maybe they have, or maybe it is such common knowledge that it gets "glossed over"....... but somebody needs to write a book on (pardon the cliche term) the institutionalized racism that was "The Cabaret Card".
We all think of Billie Holiday, but it was so much more than just her. I think Bird AND Monk, at the time of this photo, had their NYC cards yanked from them.
Poor Bird...Judy Garland suffered the same fate. I think she was 47 when she died, but looked 65.
Charlie Parker was even worse, just 35 and the coroner thought he was closer to 60.

Hello there all. It's great to see the interest in BP's work, especially after that NYTimes article a year or so ago. Some of his work is "rented out" at Getty and the rest is - where ? I wonder. I live in Paris France, there is interest here in a book of Bob's work but I have nowhere to go, and confidentiality at Getty precludes them saying anything. Anybody know anything ? Merci d'avance. j

Thanks for posting this. I recently saw the documentary "W. Eugene Smith and the Jazz Loft" so this is timely...I also bought a NYT digital subscription just to see it (and other photography stories).
