Japanese Canon EOS 1V

Hello All,

Would a Canon EOS 1V made for the Japanese market be any different from the USA version? Not the literature, but the actual camera.

My guess is that perhaps labels or markings might be native to the market.

Perhaps the LCD panel might be different? Although I suspect not.

No, for these reasons.
The 1v was their flagship and most expensive camera. Making variations to this camera would just add more expense on the already premium price/design and introduce unneeded manufacturing concerns. Making changes/slightly different model designations w/lower end cameras is easier to do with lower pricepoint bodies. Their are many 1v's in Japan, yet no mention of model variation/designation. The Canon film camera hall of fame states that the 1v was marketed in the Americas, Japan, and Europe, Asia/Oceania. There is always a chance that the firmware might be set up to provide different "defaults" - e.g. the menus might default to Japanese instead of English.

I can't see there being any difference... All the custom function settings
will be the same. Awesome camera if you're thinking of buying one from Japan.
As mentioned above, it would make zero financial sense in terms
of marketing and production to have any difference.

I shoot both EOS and Nikon systems and I've recently been kicking around the idea of buying a 1v . . . but I've also been eying the Nikon F5, which I've always regarded as being technologically superior to the 1v. And right now they're both going for about the same on eBay. Decisions, decisions. I have more EF glass than AF Nikkors, but my AF Nikkors are better quality lenses than my EF ones. Decisions, decisions. I'll probably eventually end up buying both -- eventually.

Ya! Get 'em both. I used to use both systems too, and even though I'd consider myself a Canon guy,
the F5 just always seems better made...it even sounded better.

I'm the same way. I cut my eye teeth on Canon FD and actually switched over to EOS and Nikon both at the same time -- bought the EOS system mostly so the wife and I had a snapshot camera for our newborn daughter. And the Nikon gear was still strictly manual focus, even though it was 1991. Things have kinda stayed the same until quite recently -- except I bought back all the FD gear I sold and then some. But one of the things I've noticed about the Nikon cameras I've owned in general is they all do sound good when tripping and winding the shutter.

Sounds like where I'm at too. Old time FD guy, added some Nikon stuff to my collection and ended up with an F5. Love the F5, got a EOS 1n to see how they compare. I pretty much never use the 1n, grabbing the F5 instead but now that I've actually put the 1n up for sale I find I'm drawn to a 1v. Geez... theres no end...

I was always a Nikon guy, and found Canon cameras gimmicky. However almost all those "gimmicks" have been taken up as standard SLR and DSLR functions, so perhaps they were simply ahead of the game?
