JandC 8x10 film tubes redesigned?

Hi, well after reading a few post here about the JandC 8x10 film tubes, I bought a couple, and they arrived here today.However the ones I got don't look like the ones on their website.The tops of the caps have a nipple on em with a hole that looks like they are there so you can run a string or cord through them.I'm not following the logic on why they added this 'feature'It seems like the tops of the caps should be flat like the ones on their website photos so they are more stable and don't roll around sitting on the counter top.I guess I can cut and file this 'feature' off, but with that trouble I may have well just made my own.Can someone please enlighten me as to why they added this new feature?Thanks

Chris,

If there has been a change in their tubes, don't you think sending them a note to ask why? would be prudent?

I don't understand why, if something has changed or being perceived a changed, don't people email the company concerened to get it straight from the horses mouth?

If you want to be enlighted, My best guess would be the people that made it!

These tubes were actually designed to hold welding rods. They also function nicely as developing tubes. I bought 4 a few months ago and they all have eyeloops to hang them. I just cut off the loop so it can sit flat on the table.

I don't think any changes were made to them.

Dave, I called them and the girl on the phone knew nadda.Emailed them and so far no response.Its really no big deal.Just didn't want to hack the eyelets off if they served some actual useful purpose.By the way, I'm curious about the smoke odor warning on your site, is that cigarette smoke we are talking about, or does your ground glass facility serve double duty as a blacksmith shop

They don't serve a purpose when used as developing tubes, but do for welding rod tubes; which is what they really are. They have always had the eyelets. You should definitely cut them off.

Well the shop has served double duty at times to do some shoes for the horses, but it means I am a smoker, and the product is produced in a smoking enviorment, which has no effect whatsoever on the glass, anyone that has ordered a screen from me, can attest, they are very clean and wrapped properly so that the customer can take them out of the package, take the tissue paper off and install them in their camera and start shooting.

Dave, I am one of your satisfied customers.Bought a screen several months ago for my 4x5.Was just curious thats all.Will be ordering an 8x10 screen soon.Thanks for the great product and price!

As several people have indicated they are not needed for developing tubes but are there as hangers for the welding rod application. They used to be cut off for us and came without. However that's not the case anymore. Just cut the hook off and it will work.
