I liked the old JandC 200/400 for my white background portraiture. Now that the company is out of business I cannot order it. I think thou it might have been repackaged from another film.
Does anyone here know what JandC 200 and 400 was? Where it came from? I am wondering if I can buy it anywhere online (freestyle or somewhere else) under its original or new name.
Thanks very much Gerry
J&C also sold Chinese LF film under their own name, there was some confusion as they sold the EFKE & Forte films as J&C Classic, the Forte film came from Fotoimpex as Classic Art and there was some mis-packaging at the US end.
Like Sandy I found the ethics of re-branding Forte films (and papers) as Bergger and charging extortionate prices quite dishonest.

It is interesting that you mention the Chinese LF film. John sent me some of this film for testing when he first got it and I thought it was pretty good stuff. A couple of years later I ran into John at the Formulary and asked him why he quit importing the film. He remarked that this one guy all by himself had pretty much ruined the market for the film with his bad-mouthing of it on two or three of the fora. I found it pretty interesting that one dumb a*@ could cause so much damage.

Was it the cheaper price, or the look of the film which 1st attracted you to it? You may want to try Fomapan 200 which looks great in just about any developer, and is a reasonably priced film. Or why not try some of the Efke 25? That was a film I used regularly until discovering the Rolleipan films made by the old Agfa R/D people from Belgium.
Still wish their R³ was available. That was fantastic stuff. Testing the Rolleipan 200 as a replacement.
