There isn’t enough information here.

1-Are you experienced with film Hasselblads?
2-Is this back mounted on a camera or not?
3-Is this the only back you have, or is there another?
4-Is this back loaded or empty?
5-Has it worked properly before? If so, what were the circumstances of this event?
6-A picture of this *might* help

I have experience with the camera. It has worked properly before. Thank goodness I have a functioning C12.

Try two things. Remove the dark slide and give the insert a jiggle as you attempt removal.

So what seems to have been the problem: jammed sealing tape or a loosely rolled film?

Or did you mean film on top of clamp (it should be under the clamp, normally).

Finally got it. Loosely rolled film was the culprit. I had to use a screwdriver to push it down while I jiggled the tray. Whew! Now I'm going to run an old roll of film through it to see if anythings mucked up. Thanks to all who answered!!

Oh, good. Other than losing your roll, this was the cheapest fix. Hope it was just an anomaly with one roll.

can you remove the dark slide and try again? coming to think of it. Is the dark slide in therethe right way, or is the insert stopped by the dark slide??

I had a similar problem last week.

I finished the roll, went to insert the dark slide for it only to go in 90% of the way.

Long story-short, turned out that the adhesive strip had found it's way into the rear blinds, stopping the darkslide, so i had to devise a temporary darkroom under a heavy jacket to remove the film holder, recover the roll and seal it up.

Now, i'll try and remember to insert the darkslide afer exposure 12 but before i cock the shutter or roll up the tail of the paper.

One item always with me is a changing bag. Much better than hoping the "rolled up coat trick" won't result in fogged film. Don't ask how I came to that conclusion .

Thank you! I was born in Claremont, but moved away from California nine years later. I miss the great weather, but the "haze" (aka "smog") and traffic on the 405, drive me nuts! I now live in a small farming town without a single traffic light, and "heavy traffic" is three cars or a tractor .

I carry changing bags in my two main bags, Hasselblad medium format gear and a 35mm kit.

These are clean, folded into a shaped to fit underneath my cameras, backs, etc, giving extra padding to the bottom, between the camera/lenses.

The changing bags are kept clean in heavy duty Ziplock type bags, and so I always have a solution to problems like the OP went through.

Buy good, soundly made changing bags, and I recommend one each for every critical bag, for example, one for a rangefinder bag, one for 35mm SLRs, and like others here, I have several makers of SLR cameras lenses and while keeping kit in a bag is not a good practice, if out shooting say a Canon and or Pentax kit, you'll not have to think about transferring a single changing bag back and forth, and possibly overlooking the dark bag in another camera back.

Myself, I'll be adding a third, used bag to my kit, when able, because of that one single factor.
