J&C has some discounted boxes of 8X10 film that were cut too large to fit standard 8X10 holders. Has anybody bought some and had any luck trimming it? I was wondering if it is both dimensions.. I have a large cutter available.
I thought it might be a good way to try out my new 8X10. I would rather make mistakes with this then some more expensive stuff.
I bought some of the film for pinhole work. The first piece I pulled from the bag was sacrificial as I needed to measure it for the film holder. The size measured a 1/16" short on each side. I put the sheet back in the bag to compare it with the rest of the sheets and they all matched the measured sheet.
I have not checked the other bags. I would not assume that they were of identical. I plan to 'lose' one sheet per bag as a result of my findings.
However, I plan to buy more of the film when I get my next paycheck.
I have bought two packs of this film. I have to trim it in both directions to fit my film holders. Good stuff; develops nicely in pyrocat hd to my mind.
I bought several packages. I had the same idea to try this film before I go to expensive staff. I build a guide out of aluminium square stock bolted it on the base so you can do it in the dark. What I bought is a small rolling cutter, you slide it under the cutting ruler and feel the edge of the sheet on the left side. I did cut out half circle in the aluminium stock on the left side to feel when sheet hits the bar. You can cut those sheets with ease or Circut film (which gives you 300 sheets of film). If you need a pic. I can post one for you.
Thanks for your responses. I guess it might be worth a try if there is any left. Greg, I would like to see that guide you are talking about. And the info on the small rolling cutter.
