Ive shot a lot of film, anyways, help with tri-x

10 rolls of film. 1 FP4+ 2 apx 100 1 hp5+ and 8 of tri-x. i have an efke 400 in my camera. my question is i need to push tri-x 3-4 stops.

I have calculated 35min in d76 stock.

Is this good?

Why do we need to know all the films you're using?

Anyway, the massive development chart says for D76 stock 11 minutes at EI3200. That's three stops, and four should be somewhere then around 15 to 16 minutes.

I've personally only pushed 400TX a few times, and that was to 1600 and then once to 3200, and the shadows were pretty much nonexistent with D76. If you're pushing that far, you should go with a good compensative developer such as XTol or the like. XTol I've pushed 400TX to 1600 without a problem.

Rule of thumb - thumbs can be off by a country mile - as can the massive develoment chart. Tri-x after asa 1600 gets less and less desirable. Grain, CI, Tonal range. At 1600, I would not use D76 - even though D-76 can push it all the way. I would go for XTOL or Microphen. The times I have in my log book - From actually doing it was Tri-x in D76 (Full Strength) for 12 1/2 minutes at 68F. I got good tonal range with this and grain was not unacceptable. That is what I got - Your milage may vary. - For ASA 3200 - just up the temp to 70F. Tri-x is the most forgiving film I have used. It can put up with a lot of abuse. FWIW Tri-x in XTOL 1:1 at 75F for 13min at asa3200 - SBR 6 (N+3or4) DR 1.3 (Grade 2) - Expose for zone 5 - you will loose zone 8 and up and zone 3 and below zone 4 will be dark with detail and zone 3 will be mud and deep shadows- zone 7 will not be paper white but zone 8 will be.

Consider diafine. Many people get EI1000-1600 with it and tri-x.
