In my continued efforts to go everywhere in the world at work's expense, I'll be spending the first week of December in Istanbul. I am aware that this is a Good Thing. I'm staying near the Taksim metro station, and unfortunately will not have a chance to get out of the city and see the rest of what by all accounts is a stunning country. I'll probably actually be doing a lot of my shooting at night, owing to winter daylight hours and meetings during the day.

It seems obvious that some of the obvious tourist attractions like Aya Sofia are not to be missed, and I already have a mission that will take me over to the Byzantine aqueduct. Beyond that, for a visitor with a camera and a taste for the obscure back corners of cities where Actual People Actually Live, any recommendations?

Also, we seem to have quite a few APUG folks in the city; if anyone wants to get together for a cup of coffee or something, drop me a PM.

Thanks

Visit Aya Sofia , Archaeology Museum , Süleymaniye Mosque , Topkapı Palace and may be Modern Art Museum. Go to Bosphorus and follow the road to Sarıyer. Dolmabahçe Sarayı is excellent. Yıldız Parkı at Besiktas , Çırağan Sarayı are excellent. I wish weather would be like today.

A few not so obscure but still favourite spots:
Eminonu, Eyup, Balat, Uskudar, Ortakoy, Princess Islands

Hmmm...I thought Eyup was in Maine. Everybody there sure mentions it a lot.
