Which post scan soft do you have available?
That doesn't offer an "acquire" feature like PShop?
It was known as a plugin "Acquire" now called "Import" that connects with the scanner...View attachment 292012
Just checked what Pieter12 mentioned it works but really rudimentary (better than nothing).
Does Epson Scan 2 allow you to adjust the levels prior to scanning? In EpsonScan, you could. I haven't messed with Epson Scan 2 (I don't know if it will run my 4870) so I can't really help more than that.
...I usually scan with the Epson driver and check "none" at the image correction prompt. I do all the corrections inside Affinity or Photoshop.
The OP has upgraded to OS12, but probably the same situation.Did you see this?
Epson Scan or Epson Scan 2 does not work since I upgraded to macOS 11. What should I do?
- Update or reinstall Epson Scan 2. To update the software, use Epson Software Updater. To reinstall the software, do the following:
Note: Epson Scan is not supported in macOS 11. You can use Apple's Image Capture software instead. To use Image Capture, install Epson's ICA Scanner Driver for Image Capture. Go to the Downloads tab on your product's support page, and download and install the ICA Scanner Driver for Image Capture.
- Go to the Epson Support page and select your product.
- Select macOS 11 in the Operating System drop-down box, if necessary.
- Download and install the Scanner Driver and Epson Scan 2 Utility for your product.

@Duceman Affinity does have a batch processor. There are some default things, such as jpeg conversion, but you can record your own macro. There are videos on Youtube on how to do it.
So, I stepped away from the computer a bit and muddled the issue around in my head. One thing that occurred to me was that I hadn't restarted my computer in the past couple of days, especially since reinstalling Epson Scan 2 (with Macs, restarting the computer when installing new software is rarely required). Maybe this lead to some caching issues with Epson Scan 2? So, after dinner, I restarted my computer and set up some more negatives to scan. Well, whaddya know... the pinwheel and slowness issues went away, as did the errant scans after playing wit the preview levels. The program appears to essentially be the same it was prior to the OS 12 upgrade. (However, I haven't tried to gather thumbnail previews yet, so that issue is still with the jury.)
Now, all that being said... I seem to recall trying a free trial of Vuescan way back when, but decided its price tag wasn't worth it in comparison to (the original) Epson Scan. Since Epson Scan 2 is, IMO, a shell of its former self, maybe it's worth looking into again.
