Is there a no fail recipe ?

Chocochick93

HI All... Very very new to developing any film in general.... but I am wanting to try the coffee developer. And have found a recipe online to try
8 oz of water
4 teaspoons of instant coffee crystals
2 teaspoons of washing soda

It doesn't tell me, what the temperature of the water should be, or does that matter? Also the article said to develop for 25 mins, and he was using Kodak T-Max 400, exposed at ISO 100. How do you change it if your film is exposed at a higher ISO ?

The article also mentions to use vinegar for fix. It only says diluted vinegar. Has anyone tried that.. and is there a recommended measurement of vinegar to water ?

hi chocochick93

sorry i missed your post
i've been "outto lunch"
that is a good recipe you found
others can be found in http://www.caffenol-cookbook.com
and http://caffenol.blogspot.com/

i mix my water with chemistry at about 70ºF
i process all my film for about the same time ... 25mins might be a bit long
maybe 16-mins? i don't usually do normal agitation but stand develop with a tiny bit of print developer ( stock)
mixed in .. i stand develop for about 30mins ... every asa every film every type of film i process the exact same way ( together even ) ..

i wouldn't use vinegar for fixer, stop bath, maybe, but it won''t do anything as a fixer.

Just found this, John. I think he must know by now but anyone else coming in and asking that question may be misled by the lack of Vitamin C (or ascorbate) in the recipe. Having read the book it would be obvious but it better be said.

hi murray
you are right.

BUT
there are people
who don't use any washing soda or vitc ...
but they stand their film for a long long time
from what i remember ...

i'm admittedly clueless, even thought i have been using this developer
for almost 10 years
