Is San Francisco really that bad?

I’m interested to hear what the OP’s experience is when he goes to SF. Who wants to bet he has a great time and comes back with a lot of good photos?

Of course, if it was me, I’d be heading to San Diego.))
 
Yesterday San Francisco was wet, dark and extremely murderous looking. Attaching some freshly developed proof. On the last photo the small gang of assassins is chasing an elderly victim into the Pacific.







 

Gene Smith was known to have a huge Benzedrine habit.
 
It looks like the thugs have stolen a section of that road. I suppose they’re holding it hostage somewhere, too.

For some reason I’m thinking of that Steve Martin movie ‘My blue heaven’. That was in San Diego.

Likewise a regular SF shooter, and never a problem even in recent months. I do miss the financial district work crowds.

@ymc226 why not go to Glass Key Photo your first day, buy some tri-x and a cheapie Olympus. Great souvenir….

…or come here to Hong Kong & buy a pristine Alpa - crowds, safety, great lght

This weather is perfect. Perfect for exercise, perfect for photography. The cartoonish weather we've had in NorCal all of 2022 was driving me nuts. That solid static dead cyan sky was just awful.
 
Yesterday, my family and I went to SF. First stop was a store in the Mission District. While the rest of my family was inside, I wandered around on foot with a camera in hand. Then we walked a few blocks to eat lunch. The only eventful thing that happened was a little pug who got loose from its owner - little bugger ran out into the street and nearly got itself run over. After lunch, we drove out to Crissy Field and spent a few hours at the rock climbing gym. @Steven Lee probably passed us while we were there. Nobody got mugged and our car didn't get broken into.

In hindsight, I probably should have hid behind one of those buildings on the Presidio and mugged Steven. Judging from his avatar, he seems like he has a nice rangefinder, maybe one of those shiny new Leica M6 reissues.
 
Judging by the chalk outlines… a man was murdered walking his dog in the Richmond area of SF.

I read about this case in the newspaper. The dog was choked in a violent attempt on his life. The man was arrested for domestic abuse and attempted murder, but they both lived. The dog is now in foster care. The man is at San Quentin.
 
I got caught out after sunset...walked all the way back to Embarcadero station in the dark....
oh, the horror! The horror!

Yeah, no issues....probably the thugs ignored me becaue I disguised my Leica with a Canon brand neck strap.

I lived in the bay area for 20 years and must have visited The City 100 times over the years. I've only driven into the city a handful of times - preferring always to take the BART (from the East Bay) or CalTrain (from the south) and walk or ride the muni around once I got there. I love San Francisco and wish I could afford to live there. Sure, it has it's problems, like all big cities, but I've walked all over the place, both day and night and never felt threatened or unsafe. There is not any place in the city where I would not go....unlike Oakland - where I have felt threatened and unsafe and there are places I definitely would not go even in daylight.
