To anyone who can help,

I purchased a JOBO CPA2 unit online, it was unused old stock (seriel number 12458). In setting up the JOBO it was accidentally plugged into a 240v wall socket (I’m located in Sydney, Australia.) The Jobo then turned on for about 2 seconds before it stopped working.

After opening the unit I found the main circuit 6.3amp (Fast blow) fuse had blown. I replaced the fuse and connected the jobo to a 240v – 120v Isolated stepdown transformer and then the wall socket. After then switching on the unit, the fuse again instantly blew.

Seeing as it is new old stock I doubt that there is any wiring issues. I assume the problem was the initial act of plugging the appliance into a 240v socket without the stepdown transformer which caused the problem.

My question: Is it possible that this issue might be able to be fixed easily? Or is the entire unit done for (I hope not)? Would someone be able to repair this? (Remember I'm located in Australia, but could possibly ship the item internationally if absolutely necessary)

Thanks for your time,
Ryan

I too wonder what would have caused such shortcircuit, as that is the only reason for the fuse blowing again I can think of, aside of wrong wiring. A transformer windings isolation melted?. Within 2 seconds?

If it's a broken circuit issue could a decent electrical repair shop not at least examine it and either fix it or give a report which would help with any claim you might have against the seller as it was unused stock? If a fuse blows then isn't the function of a fuse to prevent damage and if it goes again instantly when connected to the right voltage doesn't this strongly suggest that there is an inherent "wiring" problem

I'd be looking for an explanation from a electrician and giving the seller the "heads-up" that you may been sold a JOBO not fit for purpose

Contact the Darkroom Doctor, http://www.darkroomdoctor.com/, Dave Smith may be able to give you sage advice. He and his wife have been very helpful to men.

Yes call a Jobo expert . Very bad things can happen. Quick question, are you sure you have a proper transformer and not just an adaptor

The AC line in goes through a fuse then the primary of a transformer. The secondary of the transformer has two or three output windings. You have possibly shorted out the transformer and possibly some of the electronics on the output side of the transformer. It takes 1/4 to 1/2 second to short a transformer with incorrect voltage. Take it to an electronics repair shop. There is nothing elaborate but the transformer is specialized to this piece of equipment. If you were in the states I would have you send it to me for evaluation.
AC in: transformer primary||| transformer secondary for timer and display functions: rectifier, filter, out to circuits. Secondary #2 to rotation motor circuit. Secondary #3 to temperature control, may employ rectifier and filters.

You may wish to consider replacing the circuit board with 240V version. You will also need to replace the heating element. If you decide to repair the circuit board you might consider replacing the transformer to a 240V unit. You will still need to replace the heating element.

There is at least one guy in europe with the parts, not cheap but much cheaper than starting again.

I have this on my list to do, but my Jobo is currently working.
