largeformatphotogrphy.info is on a donated server

...LFF seems to go through periods where, for what reason, it's not stable or it's unavailable. I've actually experienced pretty good availability except for the last 2 days...
Unlike apug.org, which Sean has running at a data center, the server for largeformatphotography.info is donated and occasionally unattended. If for some reason it locks up, needs a re-start and there's nobody around to do that (like, say, a holiday weekend), be prepared to wait. I find the resource sufficiently valuable to deserve patience.

As for descriptions of "creaky," with the exception of one bug (confirmation a post was made) that was previously fixed but recurred and is need of troubleshooting, the site has been very fast. Any latency other than that single feature is almost certainly the result of network issues, not the site.

Sal, I stand by my term creaking, but then I have posted those and other comments on the LFPinfo forum itself, which is the appropriate place.

It's an excellent site and gets a lot of traffic, but your right in your comments, it is an entirely free site and so as you say it deserves patience.

True, but since you've posted them here too, responding seems appropriate.

Just so everyone understands, I was referring to patience while waiting for the current outage to end. None is needed otherwise.

Sorry, David... I'll try to behave. I just like the APUG forum team quite a bit more than some others.

Don't quote me on this but I believe the site was being migrated to a new service provider. But even that shouldn't cause them to be down this long except it is a long weekend. Maybe the new service doesn't proved 24/7 maintenance either, or they may have run into some unanticiapted technical difficulties.

Surely they would announce that in advance.

Been two days now.

Kind of surprised that they haven't posted an update here.

Like I said, don't quote me. But I agree, they probably should have provided adequate notice to their users. I 'm almost sure I read it in one of the threads before the site went down. Sounds like they were anticipating a bit of trouble because its happened before.

The Large Format Site is back

For those who care, the large Format Photography Forum is up and running again. I was just there. There is no explanation as to why it was down.

Kodak now owns the LF forum and it's members. I'll start another thread about that later.

In a month the production of LFF members will be cancelled. And the population of available LFF participants will greatly decline due a lack of access to their members. This is of course a conpiracy by Kodak
