Is Fuji Acros 100 Gone in 120

Dear Mike,

The two ranges are distinct families of products, although both manufactured at Mobberley they have their own coated formulations.

Regards

Simon. ILFORD Photo / HARMAN technology Limited :

I went to the source and emailed Fujifilm North America. They confirmed the replacement of single rolls of 120 with 5 packs (as previously announced).

Carry on.

Right on, Simon. I'm not surprised but it was good of you to step in decisively to such a rumour.

FWIW, Pan F is a truly unique film and has been invaluable in my photographic/art evolution.

I too was informed by Freestyle, in person, that Acros is "discontinued by the manufacturer" (yes, quote, I made sure of that) in 120 format.

It may be that Fuji is only going to sell it in pro packs. If this is that case, however, Fuji have not informed Freestyle of this.

It is not uncommon for retailers to sell their single rolls of medium format film out of opened pro packs. In fact, I would think that that not doing so, and selling the boxed individual rolls, would be far less common in pro photo shops. So, I don't see how this will affect us in the least if it really is a five-pack-only switch.

An observation and comparison

Isn't it interesting to note the apparent opposite approaches of two of our APUG Partners to questions about their products.

Fujifilm has not responded at all to this thread nor to any of the several recent threads regarding the demise of Neopan 400 in 120, giving many of us the impression that they are treating us with contempt, and undermining confidence in the company and its commitment.

Ilford, on the other hand, through their spokesman Simon Galley, almost always respond in a timely and informative manner to any direct questions about their products. That gives the impression that the company understands our needs and desires and is committed to meet those for as long as it is able.

Disclaimers: no, I am not a shareholder in Ilford nor am I a "fan-boy" of theirs. In fact I admit to having more green boxes in my fridge at the moment than white ones. And I do understand that neither company is obliged to respond to us at all, but the fact remains that one does and one doesn't.

Wotalegend:

Fujifilm may not have chimed in here, but they did respond quickly to an email query sent directly to them, as I mentioned above. Here is their full response to my query:

"Dear Bill:

Thank you for contacting FUJIFILM North America Corporation. Please
allow us to assist you.

We regret to inform you that the Neopan Acros 100 120 format is being
discontinued. However, it will be replaced by Neopan Acros 100 120 5
pack.

We sincerely hope that this information has been beneficial to you. If
you should have any further questions or concerns, please do not

When I first read this thread, I went to the Fujifilm sites, both global and USA and was discouraged to see that there weren't any obvious links to B&W products. If it was there, I didn't easily find it. I searched on specifric films and found some pdf data sheets but everything in their links seemed to refer to color products only. My discouragement was mainly that it wasn't even listed in their products and site links. Maybe I'm just blind, but has anyone else picked up on this?

My go-to films are Ilford, so the direct impact of Fuji's lack of focus on this doesn't affect me but it isn't a good sign, either!

This is the response I received from Fujifilm when I inquired about 120 Acros. Sometimes it pays to go to the source rather than continue to expand rumors.

Perhaps Kelly at Fujifilm should be discontinued and replaced with someone who actually knows how to write a clear and logical statement.

The global site has always had issues. The USA site hasn't really changed much. Everything is right there pretty clearly:

Yes actually it does affect you very greatly. It continually amazes me how people seem to miss this subtle fact. Anyways, nothing going way with Acros 120 except single packs. I'm fine with this, personally.

Huh? Elegance might be lacking but it was readable.

That's strange....when I use your link, there is the obvious black and white film selection that comes up but when I go from their product drop-down menu, that item and icon don 't come up...? Only the color products show.

For the Tonopah workshop I went to last year I took my 4x5 and exposed FP4+ 4X5 there and the results were excellent. For the upcoming workshop this September I am planning to take FP4+ in 5X7 and 8X10 because it is such a fine film and I know there won't be flaws with Ilford films. I for one have taken the challenge and although Kodak has fine films, the other option, I like the 25 sheet packages and the cost is easier to take in the large format sizes. Kodak has shot its self in the foot but that's another topic. From the information given by Fuji and the way they handled it, like Toyota, I'd be reticent to take on a steady use of their product.

This isn't a depressing thread, it's a decision making thread.

Well I guess Samy's is out. The price just seemed to be too good to be true, and their site said it was available at the time of order.

"Thank you for your order, #XXXXX. Unfortunately due to an inventory error we are currently out of stock on the film you had requested and it has been discontinued by the manufacturer. We will cancel your order and apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank You,

Samy's Camera"

when are the moderators going to dump this thread....the film is NOT discontinued
have a nice day

What else do we need to know? That's right. Nothing. 5-packs it is. Please kill this thread.

5 packs are more convenient anyway. When I buy Kodak 120 from Freestyle I always order in multiples of 10 so that I get them shrink-wrapped together.

In an era where (I assume) the majority of customers are mail ordering their film, a minimum quantity is no big deal and if it lowers costs it's better for everyone. If the quantities are inconveniently large, retailers or even enthusiasts can easily break them down for resale. Of course, Kodak seems to be doing the opposite with their 10-sheet boxes...

On Freestyle web site today under Newest Products From Freestyle, at the bottom, see what else is new this month, you will find Fuji Neopan Acros 100 120 5 Pack
Model: 16010291
Price: $14.99

Product Details:
This item is currently out of stock.

Expected delivery date from vendor: Apr 30, 2010.

I just now received my 20 rolls of 120 ACROS from Just Film (who is an APUG advertiser) at the happy price of 2.90 a roll. They have neopan 400 as well. I hope that 14.99 a 5 pack price is right because that means only 10 cent price increase... I can live with that.
