I was researching 19th century photographers from the Boston area and discovered a great site ( http://tfaoi.org/aa/6aa/6aa251.htm )for information...but the best part is the additional links at the bottom that touch upon photography across the US. Check out the link for 19th-20th century. Maybe this thread could become the depository for other fine sites to review.
