Hello,

I was in a local photo retailer today b.s.ing with the folks there that I know.

I heard some "interesting" news:

They received notice from Fuji that the following films are going away:

Pro 160S
Pro 160C
Pro 800Z
T64

...thus, the only Fujicolor Pro emulsion to remain is Pro 400H, and I would assume that all Fujicolor sheet film is to go away.

Note that though T64 was discontinued some time ago, they just found out about its discontinuance from Fuji.

I thought to myself, "This cannot be true!"

I hate to start rumors on this type of stuff, but they told me they got it from Fuji proper. I asked them three times, and three different people to make sure this is the case.

Also part of the discussion was how much prices had both gone up, and evened out between the two companies in the past two years with sheet films. It used to be that a 10-sheet box of Fuji was $18, and a 10-sheet box of Kodak was $23. Now, they are both $32.

So, if this is not true, what is with the crazy/late information that Fuji is doling out to this retailer?

Should this thread be in the Fuji sponsor's forum or here?

No. I believe they checked the prices for negative film, but they might have made a mistake, of course. Probably, now that I look around the 'Net.

If you know the manager enough, I would ask him for a copy of the letter/e-mail from Fuji (if he got one). This way we can be sure, and we won't have the rumor mill rigmarole.

Direct from Fuji Japan, the only one of the above films to be canned is T64. Fuji 160C is being discontinued in 120 in Japan, other sizes to continue

I would get a copy of the email from the store.

Just saw a similarly-worded post from Japan on Large Format forum- all 160C and 160S, all formats, gone.

I wouldn't rely on contacting Fuji USA, as they know even less about whas' up than we do.

thanks coriana, that's very helpful

I have a few friends who shoot 160C, so I'll tell them to start stocking up!

Here is the official page direct from Fuji Japan, albeit in Japanese. None of the films listed in the original posting are to be discontinued, but they will be repackaged. From now on most 120 films will no longer be sold in single rolls, only 5 packs. Neopan 400 is gone in 120 as are all flavors T64.

http://fujifilm.jp/information/articlead_0029.html

The post on the LF forum appeared to be the same one quoted here, so until there is official word from Fuji I would doubt it. This should probably be moved to the lounge, until then.

Hope this helps.

Another camera store rumor it appears....I wonder if any rumor that originated from a camera store film counter has turned out to be correct? Sure have read a lot of them that have turned out false here and on LF.

Sometimes I wonder if the salesmen just like to bait the gullible. Let's drop a rumor and see how long it takes to get to the Internet.

Yeah, crap flying out of the cake-holes of camera-store people regarding film discontinuances is getting to be routine.

Maybe we should start automatically discounting anything they say about film until independently verified.

So much for the "we will be the last man standing" statement by fuji.

That $ucks.

I am angry against digital, I had nothing against it, but now, it is killing my art and I hate that.

I just sent an email to Fuji USA and one to Fuji Japan, and I will call them on Monday. Let's see what the official word is. They recently announced 20 sheet boxes of sheet film, so I doubt everything has been canceled, maybe this is a repackaging like Fuji is doing here in Japan to many of its films. IE no more single rolls, 5 rolls boxes, etc. Sounds like a misread or dealer going off the handle prematurely.

Couldn't we stop this until we got more profound information?

The term "news" in the title is misleading seen the source of information.

About three weeks ago I already hinted at some Fuji amateur colour films being reduced in the offer of lenghts/package sizes. That information was from Fuji's japanese site. The same site also shows the cancellation of Neopan 400 Presto as type 120.

Looking at that site today I see that PRO 160 NC is cancelled as type 120.

If it is true there's f**k all we can do about it, ultimately companys are responsible to their shareholders to make a profit not the consumers .
