Interesting modified Nikon F2 for hi-rez copying

Picked this up from a friend who use to be the staff photographer for an international oil company. They used this camera to make high resolution presentation slides. As you can see an extra wide pressure plate has been installed with the ability to put pressure on the film to keep it completely flat during exposure and then to release the pressure to advance the film. Beyond that the camera is a stock F2 with a Nikkor 55mm macro lens.

That's actually a register-pin back especially designed for slide presentations ( ... and by using register-pin slide mounts for perfect and seamless dissolves )

Yes, you could (if you have a mind to) make 3 color RGB exposures with a color wheel in front of the lens with that and be in perfect registration. Of course, assuming a good tripod with a locked off head and no vibration.

These were made by several companies, but you usually see the Oxberry models for sale. Oxberry made the 35mm Motion Picture Optical Printers we use for special effects. Look like this one is another brand, but it should do just as good of a job. Bet it came off a Forox stand...

Pin registered Nikons were used for filming stop-action movie animation - famously the mine-cart scene in Raiders of the Lost Arc.

In the 1980s a friend of mine worked at a slide-show production facility. I got to see first-hand how the multiple layers of artwork were copied with the pin-registration back 35mm cameras. Seems the art of making presentation slides with this method disappeared over night with the advent of film recorders and digital graphics.
