Hi all,

I just stumbled on this link on Kodak's pages. It is about motion picture, but since the difference is small, I think this document holds much value for all of us too (also in the light of the "How film is made" thread):

"Kodak: The Essential Reference Guide for Filmmakers."

http://www.motion.kodak.com/US/en/motion/Publications/Film_Essentials/index.htm

It is a really nice informative and readable document, including pictures and graphics as well. Probably one of the best introductory documents on film I have seen up to now...

See the links on the right of the page to the downloadable PDF documents.

Yes, that was what I thought...

It is good to see Kodak still investing time in producing such documents. Although I haven't found a date on it yet (the first 5 pages seem missing), I do have the feeling that this is a rather recent document.

Well, maybe they have to... with the amount of completely analogue-ignorant youths now probably entering the film industry, incidents like a youth pulling open a canister of exposed-but-undeveloped film thinking it is the film set's candy bar box, are probably a daily event

Thanks, Marco. There's a lot of interest there, and, as is usual with Kodak documents, it's very well written. I only wish that View Camera magazine had the same standard of editing!

About three years ago I met a lady whose brother worked for Kodak and it was his job to convince Hollywood to go digital. He was, apparently failing as "Hollywood" continued to use film as a quality issue. Perhaps Kodak's seen the light! With the new Ektar and developments in B&W, those of us who have hung in there may yet be rewarded.
