I met the author, Lawrence Stelter, of a book of photographs taken of and around the old 3rd Avenue El in Manhattan by his father, Lothar Stelter, many in the 1950s. Lothar Stelter was an amateur photographer who captured an interesting slice of life and of lost New York City architecture in glorious Kodachrome. Just glancing through book, one of my favorite shots was of the storefront of a hardware store with a sign reading "Give a Toilet Seat for Christmas!" in front of a colorful display of said items.
