I would like to learn more on how to retouch/lighten dark spots on B+W prints. As other people here said, touching up the light (dust) spots is not all that hard. But bleaching a dark spot without creating a white blob around it is much trickier.
+1 Would love to learn to do spotting.
I don't bleach. I retouch the negative. I'd be happy to look into that for you. For now go to my website at www.katherinegillis.com and Subscribe so I can notify you when the course will be available. Also you'll be advised when I will post a course description and give you the opportunity of a pre-sell discount. Thanks for contacting me. Hi Wayne,Color and b&w are of interest to me
As others have said, I can 'do' B+W light spots (on the print). I know the theory of bleaching dark spots, but as others have said, it's a lot harder and I'm hopeless at it, so some specific input here would be good.
I've also got a set of colour retouching dyes, but I've not been brave enough to have a go at this! Although there is an old Kodak info sheet giving some advice, there's nothing like seeing it done before you have a go yourself... so, I'd be interested in learning how to spot colour... there's nothing worse than a smooth blue sky with a couple of small spots (and in the day, I can't even claim it's a star!)
Sirius, just in case you are interested in knowing about my course and me please subscribe at www.katherinegillis.com.
Peter I attended Veronica Cass Academy in 1991 how 'bout you? If you're interested about my course and other things I'll be doing please go to www.katherinegillis.com and subscribe. You can also LIKE my Professional Facebook Page at: Katherine Gillis Traditional Retouching & Spotting. Small world.katherine this is great but traditional spotting of prints (B+W) is NOT that hard. the real trick is not to go in there and try to spot the entire spot right off..a little dab will do ya!
anyway I'm sure you have oodles of info to share. (also studied with Veronica Cass)
Thank you, Mitch! I'm ready for those test prints. I'm very excited about learning a new process. Why don't you go to my website at: www.katherinegillis.com and subscribe. My best to you, Katherine. If you don't know Katherine she is great. she has done some prints for me and she does all of the ones Alan Ross prints for the AA gallery .

I now have a way to make it easy to stay informed about my course release. When do you anticipate releasing your on line course?
Let's start with I am for hire to retouch negatives. I have 3 Adams Retouching machines, one with a microscope. I've been successful using Gouache. The course I'm compiling right now is traditional spotting and retouching on a B&W print. Please Subscribe on my website at www.katherinegillis.com to stay abreast of courses I may offer in the future or if you are interested in taking this one. I promise it won't cost you a week in a hotel, a plane ticket and foodAnother here who wants to learn about retouching b&w sheet film negatives 4x5/5x7/8x10 that create black spots or larger areas on prints. My fixed income (retired) would not permit travel between Seattle and S.Carolina, but hopefully you'll be able to provide instruction otherwise. I was disappointed when Kodak's Crocein Scarlet disappeared from the marketplace, as that's what I would have started with. I'm off to subscribe right away.
