Fellow GL APUGGERS: I just read a post by Steve Sherman advertising a seminar in Photographer's Formulary. Someone commented it would be great to attend but Montana is a bit too far to travel.

Which got me to thinking...sponsoring seminars might be a good purpose of the regional groups.

So I left a post for Steve, asking how many participants he would need to make a seminar pay for him, and what the per participant cost would be.

The next question for all of you is, if the cost were reasonable, would you be interested in attending a seminar with Steve and/or other APUG luminaries here in the Great Lakes area?

I'm very interested, I get disgusted when on the odd occasion I have to go to one of the Calumet shops here in Chicago and all there is posted on the board is Digi this and Digi that. Being this is a larger midwestern city you get allot of professionals that work in the fashion or commercial side and almost all that has gone Digijunk, so it seems there is no need for Calumet to promote Analog or Alternative processes.

I would drive just about anywhere here in the Greatlakes area for one of Steves workshops, I really admire his work. I wonder if the VC Large Format Conference would be appropriate?

The Midwest contingent needs to get itself together: in all good fellowship, and meaning no offense, there's more to photography than California School.

If we planned events in well placed locales, we could make it possible to reach most everyone in the middle of the country.

By rotating events around, ensure we were not shutting anybody out. Consecutive weekend workshops could be held, for instance, in Davenport and Columbus, and draw from a huge area. Next time, Ann Arbor and Madison.

Hmm, this has sort of a Big Ten feel to it.

Makes all the difference if folks could drive a few hours for a weekend instead of flying away for a week.

I did get a message from Steve expressing interest. He quoted $500 plus expenses to do a seminar, so it seems to me that if 10-15 people were interested it wouldn't be all that expensive on a per person basis. We'd just have to decide what area of the Great Lakes to have one, and find a suitable venue.
