I have just aquired a Nocon timer without instructions, the only info I've discovered on the web, which I think originated from a site by Rod Ashford, seem to belong to a different model.

The timer has a five digit display, 20 buttons marked in f-stops from -1 to +4 and buttons marked: reset, calc, enter, increase, focus, initial.

I seem to have figured out that it works as follows:

Enter a time into the display, press enter and then when initial is pressed the timer will switch on the enlarger for the entered time. Focus is an over-ride switch which just turns on the enlarger. By entering an initial "base" time and then activating any combination of the f-stop buttons, the timer will switch the enlarger on for up to each "minus" time and the base time, by using the initial button, thereafter counting up to each over-exposure, using the increase button. If a base time is entered and then one of the f-stop times is entered, followed by calc, the calculated new time can be displayed. Reset seems to get me back to the original base time when pressed after the other functions have been used. In order to reset the base time, the unit needs to be turned off and on again. I don't know if any other functions can be achieved and various combinations of buttons still elude me or produce an error display.

If any one else can help by confirming this is how it's supposed to work or if there are features I am missing, I would be grateful.

Hi Ross !
If my memory serves me right, there has been a thread about it on APUG some time ago.
You may find useful info about it by doing a search. Nocon will not give too much answers, I guess ....

You might try contacting Gene at his web site - www.genenocon.com
He is one of the most giving of information about his printing techniques, etc of any photographer I have known. One night each month he has an open house at his business to demonstrate techniques to all comers.

Thanks for the reply Georges. I have looked through all the threads with Nocon in, but to date the only articles I've come across anywhere seem to relate to a different model of Nocon Timer, with a different layout and working method.
