Instax Wide Monochrome!

Just need a semi-pro camera.

Well, not before I sell all my FP-100C that is.
 
Lessee, $17.99 for 10 sheets, image size 3.9"x2.4" = $17.99 for 93.6 in2.
Nope.
It's cheaper by far to use my 8"x10".

I use Tri-X, not instant. Impossible 8x10 is $179.99 per 10 sheets, but I see no point in using it; I was commenting on the cost of the Instax material. I got lucky a few years ago and found 20 boxes of 8x10 Tri-X, expired but always frozen. It will keep me going for the forseeable future.

I supplied the lens in shutter; we discussed what I was trying to accomplish, and Nate made it happen. Didn't cost that much, either - mid-three figures, all told. The lens is a Rodenstock 100mm Sironar-N, the helical an inexpensive generic one that Nate calibrated as part of setting up the camera. And Wide 300's are dirt cheap at the discount mail-order house of your choice.

The Wide 300, although well-made for its very low price, certainly isn't built for heavy-duty use. I won't be surprised if it breaks at some point. But if it does, I can salvage the helical and lens for another project - another Wide 300, or whatever else. So overall the financial risk is not high.

The Rezivot project to make an Instax Wide back with 4x5 Graflok fit seems to be still sputtering along. If that ever comes to fruition I'll be one of the first in line to get one. In the meantime, though, after considering alternatives based on the Lomo Belair back, I decided this was the most straightforward way for me to put Instax Wide film behind a good lens with full control of focus and exposure.
 
Nate did my 800/110a/600se conversion as well. He does great work, and I'd recommend him to anyone who wants to do something different with instant film.
 
Gotta admit, this has me wondering if I can make a pinhole camera for this film.... I think someone sells a back that can process it, right?
I started using instant film in pinhole cameras too late for FP-100B, so I never got to try it, but I think I'd like it.
 
Interesting to see that the Fuji camera that shows up when you follow the link through, is about half the price of a Lomo wide camera, or should that be the Lomo wide is twice as dear?

I like the look of both cameras but prefer the Fuji, regardless of price.

Now if they only made the prints a bigger size like 6" x 4" or even better 7" x 5", I would definitely be interested - at the right price for both the camera and the film of course!
