Hello dear Hasselblad owners, and more specifically 180 CFi owners:
I found a nice 180 CFi in very good condition. I am a bit surprized that the inside of the lens does not have the usual protective baffle (or however it's called) like my other lenses have. The helicoid is exposed as shown on the pictures below:

All my other lenses look like this: (sorry for the quick 'n dirty shaky pic)

Cost saving measure from Zeiss or is something missing on that lens? How do your lenses look like? Thanks!

Seems odd not to have the baffle (whats it called) to protect those helicoid treads against dirt and stuff, what a time to get cheep.

On-line images of the 180mm CFi are all without the baffle, while the CF version has the classic plastic velvet surfaced baffle.

CFi lenses had better flare properties. Presumably, Zeiss determined that the baffle was adding to the flare, and removing it improved the optical properties.

So it is, the CFi lenses do not have this baffle anymore. Everything is fine with the lens in this regard!

Thanks to all of you!
Like Mike, I am a bit worried about dirt landing in the helicoid, but hey, usually I am careful about my gear. (says the guy who had to send 2 cameras for repair after shooting on the beach :D )

That could be an issue of course, but on the other side, without the baffle the helicoid is also easier to clean! I do not think that there will be any issue as long as one follows the usual safety measures (use rear lens cap, no handling in rough conditions). If the lens is in good condition, go for it. The 180/4 CFi is a marvellous lens.

I believe that is normal for CFi & CFE lenses. My 3.5/100 CFi also does not have a baffle. I remember being surprised myself on seeing that, and was initially more concerned with specks of lubricant from the coil getting onto the rear element, but I have had no such issues.
