Inside Analog Photo Radio? Where is it?

Those who praise these episodes, please keep in mind that there are people who just can't understand most of it, like me. Listening to some episode is an endeavour, something I decided not to spend my time on by countless re-spooling and creeping into the speaker so to say.

Just out of curiosity, are you hard at hearing AgX or do you just not understand? You seem to express yourself so fluently ("seem" since this is also a second language to me), I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't understand.
Has the German tradition of incessantly dubbing everything really impaired the German peoples ability to understand spoken foreign languages that much‽
I could imagine Scott being a mouthful in that case, but the interviewees are mostly very articulate and careful in their pronunciation.

I can't believe no one has commented yet on what a wonderful thing you've done and how much all of your hard work is appreciated. These are the files preserved by Paul Green, yes? In which case, massive amounts of gratitude to you, also, kind sir. The two of you have done something magical and generous in preserving and presenting Scott Sheppard's work and legacy. Books have long been rather easily held on to, reprinted, republished, held in private and public collections; but I think the Analog Photo Radio which Scott created shows just how easily knowledge can be lost in the internet age and highlights the importance of preserving such things.
From myself and, (hopefully) that of future generations, thank you for caring enough to make Mr. Sheppard's hard work accessible to all of us.

May I just second this?
Had I done it, I would probably not have been done yet (been a bit swamped lately). Stuff like this, always takes far longer and is more complicated to do than one could possibly imagine at the outset.

I'm so much enjoying these. They are a treasure trove of good stuff.
I could imagine doing a digest guide for newcomers at some point here.

Well, quite often I have difficulties in understanding even what I read here at Apug... when fellows get colloquial. And I myself have been blamed to have a strong german "accent" in my English writing here. But still I am writing in 3 languages daily. And I understand quite some dialects of continental germanic languages.

I had 9 years of English education at school, what in West-Germany back than was anything than practical for life. The same time I listened to British radio half of the day. But understanding spoken English, especially American English by speakers who do not care, still can be an endeavour for me.

I have no problem at all to understand our fellow Greg Davids , but the introductory speech of Scott Shephard already is a nightmare...


Yes, you made a good point:
The availability of dubbed tv and cinema movies or rather the sheer unavailability of the original versions spoiled my generation. (Though there still was radio, but only few listened to foreign radio.)
Books in English, especially textbooks, were extremely hard to get by, as books on the most rare topics were available in German. (In contrast to e.g. the Netherlands or Flanders)

Surprisingly young germans speak an outstanding English, many with an american accent.

Goes to show how much formal education is good for. Not nothing, but currently employed methods doesn’t make you fluent in anything.

I had the same time to learn German as you had English, and while I can understand it and read and write it to some extent, I too struggle when it’s fast or regional.
Damn shame too, since German is second to none when it comes to size, and quality of cultural output, contemporary and historical, though very few people outside the cultural circle really seems to know very much of that.

The massive influx of English first on tv and movies, and then in books, adventure games and forums like this, that I had to, and really wanted to understand, prompted me to simply look up the words I didn’t quite get.
I needed to understand here and now for something specific.
That is much more incentive for really grokking than homework.
