Inkjet paper for alternative processes

Due to convenience, I wonder if inkjet paper can be used for alternative processes, especially Cyanotype, Vandyke Brown, and salted paper process.

- How does it compare with traditional fine art paper
- Any precautions to apply photo sensitive chemicals to inkjet paper
- Paper surface, glossy or matte, or between (Semi-Glossy, or Semi Matte, Satin, Lustre)
- Paper weight
- Washing

Inkjet paper is usually coated with an acrylic based cellulose containing polymer. Not ideal unless it's uncoated.

I have used it and it does work. However, most surfaces except the expensive paper lack character.

I will happily do some testing on the Canon papers i have from my time working there.

I tried it (cyanotype) and was not very pleased
- blotchy
- plasticky sheen
- looks like an photoshopped inkjet image from distance.

If the paper is acid free or archival by means of buffering, that would be bad for cyanotypes according to my understanding.

Most of the Hahnemuhle inkjet papers are coated versions of art papers that they have been making for years. Once at PMA I asked the rep about this, and they said that uncoated versions were available, and if I remember correctly, there is a distributor in New Jersey that handles them and can point to a retailer who can order them.

I've used inexpensive Epson paper (Premium Presentation) for argyrotyopes and it really formed a well toned and crisp image.
