Hello. My Olympus Pen has started acting up. The shutter opens correctly, but when it closes, it closes only half-way, then pauses, and closes the rest of the way very slowly. I have tried dripping some lighter fluid on it (it is directly accesible from the back) but this only helps a little, and only until it evaporates.

Do you think I have to disassemble the lens, and look for a weak spring, a greasy shutter blade hinge or something?

I would rather take it to a pro repairman than mess it up myself, but I do not feel it is worth the cost.

The camera is the model with the 2.8cm f/3.5 lens, and it says Copal-X on the bottom, that must be the shutter type?

Thank you for any kind of feedback on this

Emil

I don't think there is an easy way: the camera has to be opened.

Copal X is the shutter, yes,
What says on top of the camera, whith model is it ?

If you can wait until July I could have a look at it when I am back in Holland, am in Brazil right now, sorry !

The camera is simply Olympus Pen. 2 strap lug (one missing though) leatherette covering, serial 337793. The Pens generally scarce here in Denmark, I have bought the only two I have ever seen. The repair prices on zuiko.com are very reasonable, even with added shipping costs. Thanks, I will try to contact him for a quote.

With the 2.8CM lens I don't think it's a very common critter here in the US. It's most likely worth having fixed.

john h is a really nice guy.
when i bought my pen ft, i called him
and asked him specific questions about the pen ft,
what to look out for/ stay away from.
after his advice i bought a camera that i have used constantly since i bought
it and had no troubles with it. i know that if anything goes wrong with it,
HE is the person to send it to, no questions asked.

good luck with your camera!
