Industar 61 on M5?

While I'm waiting for a Zeiss Biogon I'm thinking of trying an LTM Industar 61L on an M5, via a converter. I don't think the lens will clash with the metering stalk, but can anyone confirm there's sufficient space?

I don't know for sure about the M5, but I have the CL and it has the same metering system and it doesn't fit on it.

I cannot confirm for the M5 but I have no problem using it on MP from time to time. A darn good lens! Here's one album of images using this lens:

I haven't used the CL, does it have a moving metering stalk in the focal plane? From what I can gather on the 'net, only collapsible lenses, very wide angle older M-mount lenses are a problem on the Leica M5, or FSU wides with rear elements that touch the stalk. I use the Industar 61L on a Bessa because I like the rendition, and can't see why a 53mm lens without prominent rear elements would be a problem. Best to ask around, even so.

Hi. I fitted another soviet lens to my M4, and I have fund no reason to remove it yet. Jupiter 8.

It's specifically an M5 issue regarding the meter location, not a Leica or lens quality thing.

Yes it works on my M5, no prob! The only incompatibility is with the Jupiter 12.

61 L/D is absolutely regular RF lens in terms of construction. Maybe OP is talking about Jupiter-12...

It will be ok, only a few lenses are a problem including some Leitz ones.
If you wish to fit the illegal ones you need

- to mill the LTM mount to stop the meter cell swinging into place eg for a J12.
- to mill the M mount similarly, lots of Leica lenses left the factory milled.
- to add dymo tape to collapsible lenses.
- to not loan the M5 to a ...

The CL has a similar meter cell on a lollipop stick.

Thanks for the info. To be clear, I'm looking for a 35mm Biotar but in the meantime I have an Industar 55mm lens I'd like to use via an M-mount adapter. Until the adapter arrives I'm having to guess the clearance on the lollipop. Seems like there's room for the Indy and the meter but thought I'd better check.
