I have had the same with my Orion 15. It works perfectly when I use an LTM-M adapter and then put it on an M mount camera. But on an LTM camera, it does not attach all the way.

The threads on yours and mine are improperly manufactured. The LTM adapter is shorter than the threads on the lens, so the issue does not show up there.

I'm just perplexed, I have the Canon L3 reangfinder w ltm and the Indy 61 fits nicely, do the Canon P and L3 have different thread count or maybe the threads are worn on the Indy 62?

You've checked to see if it's hitting on something either inside the film chamber, or on the outside around the lens mount? There's several versions of the I 61 but the threads on them all should be exactly like any other LTM lens.

There may be another issue. The Leica and Canon thread cameras use the Whitworth thread of 39mm × 26 tpi (threads per inch]. The Soviet cameras used 39 × 1 in metric. Often, no problem mixing because the two are close. But the threads may not be exactly the same on some lenses.

The Industar-61L/D has fine optics, but the tolerances on the focus mount are not very tight. You might find that the threads are just off enough to screw into some cameras, not others. Try another one, or get the file out.

So the Indy 61 will start on the P, but doesn't sit entirely to the back plate like on the L3 , so it possible to file the threads, haven't done this before, I guess use a very fine jewelers file ?

Before you do that: check the RF and lens agree at infinity.

If the RF falls short- fine file.

Thanks for all the replies, I guess I'll use this older ( not ld) Indy 61 on the Canon L3 and find an Indy 61 LD for the P, we'll see, let you know the outcome w newer 61.
