Industar 50 filter thread size?

It's a black non-collapsing Leica mount, with a small threaded area inside the aperture ring.

Does anyone know the size of it?

Sooner or later every dedicated photograher needs a caliper and thread gauge...

The problem is, I have a late one that someone measured just over 34mm on (serial # begins with 7563).

He didn't specify what fit it.

You have to differ between nominal size of a thread, the male diameter, and the female diameter.

If you use a caliper on a filterring at a lens, you get the female diameter. You have to add to this 2x about the height of the flanges to reach the male diameter, which still is a tiny bit less than the nominal diameter.


Thus the advice to use a caliper not always is the best...

Well shoot, I thought I had a definitive answer as Zenitcamera.com says:

Industar-50 is M33x0.5 and takes 36 mm slip-on hoods, caps, etc.
Industar-50-2 is M35.5x0.5 and takes 37 mm slip-on hoods and caps.

But when I examine my own Industar-50 and 50-2, I see they both have 33 mm filter threads (confirmed by actually screwing in an adapter). Only major difference between mine is that Industar-50 is a Z39 lens for use on earlier Zenit cameras including my circa 1966 Zenit-E, while Industar-50-2 is M42. Both of my lenses have 71xxx serial numbers.

Got a ruler which has a millimeter scale? I'd just measure the outside diameter of the filter ring as the differences between 36 mm and 37 mm O.D. aren't that subtle. When I eyeball my lenses in that manner, it's pretty obvious to me that 37 mm slip on caps would be way too big.

Well, it appears that it has a light amount of fungus scattered throughout it.

Now I need to figure out its disassembly.

I have had my eye on them. But I also like the way this small lightweight lens renders.

So hopefully it will clean up well.

I have a Industar-50-2 I havent used, so what would I know. I have the older collapsible Industar which isnt too bad.
I also have a Jupiter 8 which I find to be a descent lens, also easy to get slotted hoods and filters for.

The Industar 50 as SLR version comes over as pancake lens, due to the barrel not forming a recess as with the Zeiss Jena Tessar. However then the Tessar got its shade built in so to say, and with the Industar one has to screw on an extra shade.

Those crazy Ruskies cant decide which to go with.
Just to clarify the Industar 22 SLR has the recessed lens. Similar look to the Jupiter 12
My Industar 50-2 is M42, guess I cant try it out as I dont have a M42 camera. Ill give it to my son to use on his Fuji digi with a 42mm adaptor.

Well, it turns out that the glass is permanently etched on this one.

Luckily, I have an Industar 61L/D on the way.
