Hi everybody,

Do you have any suggestion where is it possible to import large quantities of expired film (specially the cheapest ones) from? I'm from Brazil and film is very expensive here, specially because our currency is devalued against the dollar

Hi, welcome to this forum.
You are in the black and white section of this forum, so I assume you want b/w film? Expired film is hard to get in large amounts this days and I wonder if it is much cheaper.
You could try to get in contact with Foma to buy a large amount (what do you think is large? 100 rolls?) without taxes etc and let it ship to Brazil.

But yeah, don't forget the import taxes...

shipping costs. Where is the seller?
This is Solaris Films produced by (Ferrania) Italy, and maybe it's a '95 production or something (if I'm not mistaken)
Is it a negative or positive movie?
As far as I remember, this movie was a positive (E6), if I'm not wrong.
If it is a good deal I will probably consider buying with you to try this item in my country, as we also suffer from the devaluation of the local currency.

It seems like expired film is more expensive than new film these days. The absolutely cheapest way to get film would probably get either Foma or Kentmere on bulk rolls. Maybe do a group buy with others in Brazil?

You can get 1000' reels of Kodak Eastman Double-X 35mm movie film for $699. 1000', at 64.5"/36 exposure load yields 186 loads at $3.76 / load.

Arista EDU film is $52/100ft (100ft is a much easier amount to deal with) with 18 loads per roll the price is $2.89 / load.

You, of course, have to supply the labor, the empty cassettes and DX stickers (if needed).

There used to be (and maybe still are) firms that sold partial reels of cine film left over from movie shoots.

If you are using a Nikon F/F2 or a Leica Mx then you can use their infinitely re-loadable light-trap cassettes.

The best way I know to get cheap color is Kodak Vision3 movie film. You have to develop it yourself with an ECN-2 kit because it will contaminate a C-41 processor with black, greasy crap. But that isn't all bad because doing it yourself is MUCH cheaper than taking color film to a lab.
400 ft rolls at B&H yield 72 36-exp rolls at $4.54.
100ft rolls at Ultrafinonline yield 18 rolls at $5.54.

I don't know anything about importing any of this to Brazil, though.

The Kodak gold 3-pack seems to be the last bastion of affordable color film. It’s quite insane to see the consumer colors films to reach what was formerly prices of the professional line.

That's called inflation. Diesel is now also at the price that used to be the price of benzin.
What, even LPG/GPL is at a price that once was that of benzin
