As part of CONTACT Photo in Toronto, the Agha Khan Museum is showcasing an amazing photography collection. The exhibition displays several tomes filled with photographs from the 19th century. These albums were royal photos commissioned by the sultans during the Ottoman Empire. Just fabulous images taking one back into history.
There are exquisite photgraveures, salt prints, albumens. The Sultan's guilded 8x10 is also on display. There is a magnificent album of colour photchrom prints. Just spectacular.
In contrast, huge panos taken in the last few years contrasts Istanbul life, then and now.
Must see.
