Today I had a little film holder disaster:

I put a slide into a film holder, inserted it into my Imacon 646. When
it was transported into the scanner the plastic clip at the end of the
film holder was detached from the film holder. The next thing I heard
was some unpleasant noise outside the scanner which was jammed. I had
to open it to get my slide back.

No I have a film holder and a plastic clip and tried to reattach it
but it simply does not stay on the film holder any more. I even tried
super glue, without success.

Are there any ideas from you except buying a new holder?

Now I found the reason... it's not the clip that causes the problem. I had switched Flextight to manual choice of film holders, that jammed the scanner. If it is on automatic recognition it works fine. It even works fine without that plastic clip.

I recently went back to the professional lab where I normally do my Imacon scans. I hadn't seen it before, but they now had a big warning up on the desktop stating that the Imacon scanner should be left on "automatic" recognition of film holders at all times because of a serious risk of damaging the scanner otherwise becuase the scanner might drag in the holder to far...

Seems they had had a recent similar disaster there, and to be a more common issue.

Of course, if you DO switch to manual mode, you can and must set the holder type manually, but it seems the lab did not want to risk such oversight...
