I guess you got it fixed. Just for anyone wondering. Ive been using various versions of the Imacon scanners for more then 15 years. Mainly the Flextight I and II and since 5 years the Imacon 949. This is the info I gathered and tested. Other versions might work as well...
The newest software version that will work for the 949 and 848: FlexColor 4.8.13.
It runs on OS X 10.4 -> OSX 10.8.5, Mountain Lion. No newer Macs then late 2012 works natively.
Im using a dedicated Macmini 6,1 (2012) i5 with mountain Lion installed.
I use remote screen (built in Mac app) to manage the scanning without having a extra screen, just connect it to the network and enable screen sharing.
As with all firewire/scassi. The scanner needs to be started before the computer.
To scan:
- Press 3F button in Flexcolor and scan the negative according to the manual.
- Rename the .fff file to .Tif (photoshop does not support 3F anymore, but it's actually a tif file).
- Open in photoshop and invert.
- Add histogram and pull each color hi and low points to beginning of the histogram.
- Done.
I highly recommend this scanner and this process. Very simple and makes the most of the scanner. I would say on pair with wetdrumscan quality. Minimal with dust and very fast on the newer machines. The Flextight 1 & 2 are quite slow. The 949 and New X5 are basically the same machine but much much faster.
For the older Flextight I and II without FireWire:
You need a firewire to scasi converter and correct firmware. Ratoc FR1SX SCSI
The Poweradapter for the scanner has a tendency to break. This one works well as replacement: Protek PMP60-32
Newest Flexcolor to use for Flextights are Flex Color 4.0.4 (needs rosetta installed) and latest OSX is 10.6 snow leopard.
That means no newer Mac then 2010, up to Macmini 4,1
The Ratoc FR1SX SCSI needs a particular Firmware to function, this can be downloaded and installed. It works well, but can be a bit hard to get going first time. Easiest is to get a dedicated computer with SCSI card like a g3 or g4 with a adapter card.
