i got my father's Minolta x700 working again... i thought it was broken for good, my repairman did magic with it.. the lens was broken, my father said it was dropped a few meters, and the rim was dented, but the glass is still okay.. it was not mounted on the camera when it was dropped... thats a good thing right? it still mounts, but it is very stiff when you focus it, and there's something wrong with the aperture ring.. but i decided to replace it, and it now boasts a 50mm F/1.4 MC Rokkor PG.. hehe.. a bargain find but cosmetics are nice!

i just want to share this.. you shouldve seen my father's face when I handed it to him.. it was priceless!!

pictures coming soon!!!

What a gift for your father. Fantastic. I'm happy for you. Did he run right out and drop it again? Just kidding.

Great story!I'm a big fan of the Minolta X-700 .Get your father some Kodak Ektar 100 if he hasn't already. Though there are lots of film cameras around at the moment, its's up to us to keep the ones we have in a useable condition and repair where possible.I like the fact that I have 'users' as well as 'shelf queens'. It's easier and cheaper to get another body/lens but eventually supply with dwindle and we'll end up in a position similar to the LoMo fans who are getting royally ripped off.

On a completely different subject, Laguna sounds familiar. Is there a town nearby named Los Baños with a forestry university located there?

Hi Johnny.. Yes, there is a town called Los Banos (with little curly thing above the n) Laguna... Its about an hour from my town and about a few hours from the capital Manila.. Have you been there? been there a lot of times, because Los Banos is popular here in the Philippines for its hot water pools and resorts..

The University of the Philippines, our premier state university has a branch there which deals on environmental, farming, biological, etc... and i think it has a forest too..

Yes, I was there a few times in the 80's and early 90's - long time ago. The company I worked for at the time partnered with the University in a couple of forestry projects for the Asian Development Bank. Nice place. Never went to the pools, but I did go golfing. Wonderful experience which I would like to repeat one day. I also have a lawyer friend who works there, but we've lost contact for years now.
