Eric,

Much as sniping and esnipe.com get bad press, it is the way I deal with the problem
of having other things going on in my life and forgetting to bid. Make your top bid when you think of it and let them remember. That is worth 1% to me. If you get
outbid you made the best decision on what you knew or could afford. You didn’t
simply forget to bid.

May all your winning bids be the best deal ever.

On the bright side, Eric, had you remembered the auction, you might have been tempted to get into a bidding war with the seller's proxy, and ended up paying much more than you wanted. (Not that I've ever done that, of course! )

No need to cry. Thinking you could have gotten it for a dollar more than the winning bidder's price is a common mistake. Because of e bay's proxy bidding system you have no way of knowing what the purchaser's high bid really was. For all you know his proxy bid may have been much higher than what he ended up buying it for and to have won the item you needed to exceed his proxy bid, not his winning bid. But to avoid this in the future, and to win more auctions, sign up for one of the sniping services.

No need to cry. Because of e bay's proxy bidding system you have no way of knowing what it really would have taken to win the item. For all you know the winning bidder submitted a proxy bid much higher than what he ended up actually paying and to win the item you have to have exceeded his proxy bid, not his actual winning bid. But to avoid forgetting in the future, and to win more auctions, sign up for one of the sniping services. And finally, as someone else said, you didn't want a Tech IV anyhow. The front rise mechanism is at the back rear of the camera and is difficult to operate with wide angle lenses. Pay a few hundred dollars more and get a Tech V which has the front rise mechanism where it should be, i.e. at the front of the camera.
