It's been over a decade.. But I'm back. Just thought I would say hello to see who's paying attention here.
Seems like all my old friends are gone.
One in particular: John Nanian. Anyone remember him? Curious what's going on with him. His account is removed here so I have no way of knowing.
So I left analog, but for a valid reason. Now I'm kind of dipping my toes back in to see how far I wonder.
I'll be hiking a long 3100 mile hike in 2024. Want to bring one film camera with me.
At the moment I'm strongly considering a Reality So Simple (RSS) 6x9 pinhole camera, weight, durability, and well... pinhole rocks!
Welcome back! John still pokes around here, and over at the LFPF.
Welcome back toAPUGPhotrio!!
Welcome back! I was also gone for a few years, not trying to learn the craft again. Good luck!
I don't think I'll be doing any darkroom work from here on out unless I strike it rich and have abundant time to explore my heart's content which is a deep chasm. But I'm in an apartment and it's difficult to make any room for any kind of processing here. I've got a food production setup taking up most of my kitchen and living room and need every square inch. And rent is expensive around here (coastal California). But if I were rich tell you what, I'd have a huge studio that could be used as one giant darkroom if need be, and I'd have the right equipment to produce wall size gum bichromates. That I think is the last thing for me to explore that was on my bucket list back in the day. But I have limited time now and limited money due to my goal for 2024 trek.
That said, I don't need to learn the craft again if I'm only shooting. So a shooter I'll be. Send exposed film to lab. Get scans. Share them on my trip as the trip progresses. I plan to be documenting the trip with pinhole stills, and GoPro video. My employer back home here might be partnering with me and be my support behind the scenes, processing my footage and making daily videos for YouTube. That's my general plan on this analog trip again.
Funny thing is it's the whole wanting to revive my Dad's old camera for one photo scene with my brother in memorial of my first trekking trip. Once I cracked open that door, the place just flooded quickly and now I'm here swimming around with all this analog desire again. I tell you it's a love that I forced myself to extinguish. It was for a good reason and I'd do it all over again. But boy, I sure missed this. I never get excited about digital...... never.

John posts some great stuff on his Instagram page.
