Just curious how many of our members are "Regular Users" of Ilfotec HC.

I guess it was about a year ago that i used up my last batch of D76, which i was happy with.......
but just for convenience, i started using Ilfotec HC. I pretty much only use HP5 and FP4 in 35mm and 6x7.

Wonderful with HP5.

Use it, dial it in and never use anything else. It is a wonderful developer.

First, if it makes a difference, i should have said ID-11 and not D-76
I suppose that was an obvious question.
To be honest, i do not think i am quite qualified to say.
I am probably, just now, becoming "competent" with my camera metering to generate consistently (properly) exposed negatives.
But looking back,, i wonder if MAYBE the ID-ll might have offered negs with a bit finer grain.?
Other than that, i am not sure i really see any difference (in my negatives) at all.
The Ilfotec is so easy to use, i doubt i will ever perform any kind of "test" between the two.

I was bored today and just for fun developed the same identically exposed scene in ID-11 (full strength) and Ilfotec HC (1+31) using datasheet times for HP5+ and T-Max 400. Indeed, I do not see much difference, perhaps ID-11 offers slightly finer grain. I also compared different dilutions of HC: 1+31 vs 1+47. The higher dilution produced slightly coarser grain and slightly more subtlety in the highlights, barely noticeable and could be attributed to slight scanning differences or light slightly changing between shots.

I bought a bottle to have on hand when my stock of the syrupy version of HC-110 is depleted. I’ve tried it with some TMax, both 100 and 400, some 5222 and several rolls of Delta 400 all in 135. The results were very similar to what I was getting from the same dilution of HC-110. I like the liquid developers because we live in a small house and storage is always at a premium. Also, there are times when I may not develop any film for a while and it doesn’t make sense to have a gallon jug sitting around.

I find it interesting that HC-110 is described as finer grain developer than D-76. But my HC results are not finer grained than ID-11. This can mean one of two things:

ID-11 is finer grained than D-76
HC-110 is finer grained than Ilfotec HC

Either way there's no 100% equivalency between these two pairs of developers from Ilford and Kodak.
