I have enough at the moment but am heartened by the possibility of a similar restock next year - (11x14" 8x10" and maybe larger one day, may as well go 20x24" huh!)

9 X 12 cm is listed in the standard Ilford product list as a 'stock' item. I've never seen it stocked by any of the British dealers, but it isn't really a UK size, being metric. Maybe in other European countries. I would have thought any dealer should be able to order it, though? It is listed as available "WW" (worldwide...) Limiting factor for those across the pond seems to be shipping costs, however.

On a purely practical level, do we know if the film will be sent directly from Ilford or via the dealer? The reason for asking is that I tend to go on holiday in August and have visions of the film arriving the day after I leave and then sitting at the back of the door for 2 weeks in baking heat! But then again, I'm guessing that maybe the dealer doesn't have spare storage to keep the film while I go on holiday? :confused:

The film is shipped to the customer by the dealer.

I had the same concern, because I travel occasionally for work and it's impossible to predict my schedule several months in advance. But each year when I place my ULF order I've arranged with the dealer to contact me when the film arrives, and to hold the film until I respond with a confirmation that I'll be available to receive it. This has worked well.

It is a standard stock size for Ilford in FP4 & HP5! - we have it on the shelf ourselves in FP4.

Re: the 9x12; None of the US retailers seem to show it as an available product. Maybe it's something that Wynit doesn't bring in?

I'm slightly surprised you have it on the shelf, I would have thought quarter plate and half plate should have been more popular in the UK!
Who uses 9 X 12cm and what in what cameras, I wonder?

I'm curious, how much is a pack of 9 X 12?

(since it is a similar size to quarter plate ;-)

Steve, 9x12 is only slightly smaller than 5x4, it's almost the same length but narrower. It was the pre-WWII German standard equivalent to 5x4 and after WWII with International backs becoming standard the new 9x12 Double Darkslides share the same outside dimensions as 5x4.

The format remained standard on the Continent which is where I buy film for my 4 9x12 cameras, all pre-WWII, but modern cameras from Plaubel, Linhof etc were still being sold as 9x12 until quite recently.

It's slightly bigger than Quarter plate but in the UK & US (pre-WWII) Quarter plate plate/film holders where available for 9x12 cameras unfortunately there was no standard holder, only a standard plate/film size.

£25.82, 25 sheets.

We have Quarter Plate on the shelf too, from Adox. 25, 50 and 100 ASA.

That sounds more like the sort of price I'd expect - which makes that Ilford price for quarter plate sound completely wrong... any news from Ilford about this?

Please do not apply prices of similar size products and think they should relate as ULF run is making special
manufacture with special custom packaging as well.

But then the next size up, quarter plate - 25 sheets, jumps to £77.59.

That is more than four times the price, over £3 per sheet.

It almost the same price as a box of 4 X 10" and only a little cheaper than a box of whole plate, which is obviously four times the area of film.

It is just such a big jump in price, it just didn't sound right! :confused:

If the price isn't based on the size but more on the expense of cutting and packing a 'special' size, I wonder why 3.5 X 2.5" is so very much cheaper than the rest?

That doesn't sound right. Just as an example of US pricing, Badger is showing 2.25x3.25 at $32.95, and 3.25x4.25 at $54.95.

In another thread I posted that Fred Newman had contacted me that my 7x17 HP5+ was in. Please add my thanks and pleasure to you and the folks that make the film and also the paper for that matter. Tell them that I had had to stoop to using 8x10 film while I waited, Ilford of course.
