Ilford Pan 400

So I'm at the film store today looking over at all the films and I see a film that I've never heard of before, Ilford Pan 400. Tonight I look at their web site and see no mention of this film. Anyone here of and use this film?

Yes and there is Kentmere 400 and 100 as well!

There a few threads on this film.

From what Simon Galley has said, PAN 100 and PAN 400 are distinct formulations from any of the other Harman products, and are only sold and marketed in "certain" areas of the world. I'm guessing these areas would coincide with what used to be called the "third world".
I think there are one or two retailers/distributors outside the "certain areas" who are also authorised to sell it (there certainly are in the UK)
Elsewhere they'll be "grey" imports I suppose

It seems to be well thought of by those who use it, as you'd expect from the manufacturer.

I first came across this film while in Beijing, needing to buy some faster B&W film. I pushed it to EI-1600 and quite liked the look -- it 'feels' like an older style emulsion, a bit softer and grainier.
Friends travelling in Thailand picked some more up for me, so it seems to at least be sold in Asia. You can also find this online such as eBay.

Just my guess, but this film seems like those found in decades past and it's an interesting unique film.

Here in the UK it is available only in 35mm rolls or bulk. I have seen a 120 roll version.

Where can I buy the 120 version in the U.S.A.? Sure would like to try some. Always game for a "good" cheap film since I'm no on a fixed income. A very low fixed income at that. John W

You can't AFAIK. I picked up a few 35mm rolls years ago in the Budapest airport. Was not overly impressed. Grainy and old school but I was not as good with film and development 15 years ago as I am now so it was likely me.

Yes, here in the Third World (Lima, Peru) i have shot about 3 or 4 rolls of ILFORD PAN 100, but have not enlarged any frame yet. In fact yesterday i've shot on Pan 100 as well, along with Fomapan 100.

PAN 100 is supposed to be a good film and i'm expecting results similar to FP4 which is a nice film. However ILFORD Delta 100 is better in all respects, and it's my first choice for ISO 100 when I can pay the extra price.

I use it almost exclusively for b&w (apart from Foma 200) and I am pretty much happy with it.
Graininess is more about how it was developed rather than overall characteristics of this film.
Forgiving to be pushed to 3200ASA.

I bought a single brick from an Asian Dealer off e-bay. Seems to be sold in those contries where to be competitive the product has to be sold cheaper than in Europe or North America. By selling a different product their is no chance of it turning up as a substitute for HP5, and FP4.

Good quality film, probably not as advanced a formulation than the old standbys. With the cost and risk of mailing across the pacific, probably not worth your time here. My impression is it is yet again different from the Kentmere films. Although Kentmere would be the recommendation for a Budget film these days in North America. Too Bad Kentmere does not seem to come in 120.

I have seen the pan 100 and Pan 400 listed in e-bay in 120 from time to time.

I normally get fresh film almost directly from the factory and always with over 4 years on the expiry date.
That's the sort of quality that HARMAN does.

I just bought my first roll of Kentmere film and the expiry date is in 2019!! That film won't last two weeks with me, much less than 4 years!!!

If you're not in the UK you're probably out of luck though.

note that harmanexpress excludes some products which are ONLY sold via dealer/distributor (e.g. Kenthene, but maybe PAN films too)

Try Kentmere 100 or 400 if you can't get Pan.
