I'm using Ilford multigrade paper developer. Ilford's data sheet says working solution (1:9) will last 24 hours in a capped bottle. I am finding it lasting 1-2 weeks easily. At least I am testing it with some exposed paper and the paper goes full black no problem. As the capacity is 100 sheets (8x10)/litre I am loathe to throw my half litre working mix away after each session of a few prints.
What are others' experiences? I don't want to compromise the "learning curve" I am on by adding in too much of a variable of gone-off developer, but I am just not seeing a difference between freshly mixed and 1 week old?
yup it will last at least a week made up ( probably a bit longer )
I bought 5L of Mulitgrade developer in March 2016. I separated it out into smaller air tight containers and I'm just now using the last liter of it and it works fine.Resurrecting this thread...
I accidentally filled my trays with old Ilford Multigrade paper developer and fixer today (picked up wrong bottles from the storage space). Chemicals were mixed up 4 months ago. I thought the developer looked a bit more yellow than usual! Anyway, carried on without realising I'd used the old stuff. Surprisingly, prints have come out just fine, blacks look correct, contrast seems fine.
I do use a temperature compensating timer (DLG Electronics) and it is quite cold today, not sure if the low temperatures and longer time helped the chemicals to do their job? Anyway, not recommending using old chemicals, but curious how much punch was still in there...
