This is the first generation of Ilford Multigrade enlarger system Head before the 500 system. It work the same except the lamps are two ELB 80W instead of 150 or 300W bulbs like in the Ilford 500 system.
The system is fully functional. This is a 2 parts system: head (400HS) and control unit (400C). The control unit incorporate the power supply (so you don't have a separate power supply like the Ilford 500 system). If you are not familiar with the Ilford 400 system, you can check the instruction manual on the Ilford website: https://www.ilfordphoto.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/MG400_Operating-Manual.pdf
I think it can be easey to mount this head on a lot of enlargers models. See my pictures on eBay to see the exact dimensions.
Lowered the Buy It Now price to 200$C (about 150$US), corresponding to my automatic best offer accepted.
Nice head for a small and medium format negatives with plenty of light even if the Ilford 400 head is less powerfull the the Ilford 500 head and a lot less expensive that the 500 system! https://www.ebay.com/itm/303218481709
Price lowered again to 160$C about 116$US. Nice backup if you have this Ilford 400 head and a chance to get the 35mm box if you don't have it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/303218481709
Still available. Similar to Ilford 500 system, it work the same except the lamps are two ELB 80W instead of 150 or 300W bulbs like in the Ilford 500 system. But for 35mm and medium format, 2x80W =160 W. is well enough.

Hello Matt'
Interested to have a backup? I have also a lot of new filters for it. Ordered from Jay for my Ilford 500 heads but a bit too small but they fit in the Ilford 400, I can ship it with this head. Free ship to Canada today, I will cover the extra weight of the Canada Post promotion.
Probably a very compact and well build Saunders LPL.
Here I have a lot of space with two Durst 184 and one 138 and also a Beseler4x5 on storage. But I have too much stock. As you said the Ilford 400 is also reliable as the lford 500 at a fraction of the cost.
Yep - LPL 7700.
The 400 has two additional advantages over the 500.
1) there is no need for a fan, so there are no problems with fan associated vibrations; and
2) the control unit contains the power supply, and is a lot smaller and lighter than the 500 series power supply.
