I was in the local camera store this weekend and spotted the old familiar orange/red Ilfospeed label on some paper boxes. I haven't seen that product for years.

I used to use it extensively but thought it was discontinued some time ago. Is Ilfospeed being produced again? If so, is it the same as the old product and do they have the old matte finish available?

I would ask the strore staff but they are too busy selling Digital SLRs to the college students.

I've seen paper in my nearest Ilford stockist in Turkey that was made in the last century :D circa 1989 and definitely Ilfospeed.

More recently I saw paper that was very obviously Ilford labelled as Filter on the packet, and yes again also Ilfospeed graded papers, that was in Santiago, Chile.

There's obviously a lot of old stock around in some parts of the market.

Ilfospeed -the graded paper- is still being produced (as opposed to "again"). As far as I know, it was never discontinued, although you can't get grade 5 anymore, and grade 4 only while stock lasts.

What is the "old matte finish"? Looking at my old Ilfospeed boxes, I used .24, which is semi-matt. Anyway, check the current Product Availability List @ IlfordPhoto.

I use it all the time for my contact prints..... no problem getting it from Ilford.... not aware of any plans to drop the lineup either. Since I only use graded papers with 8x10 I use it for the contact print that I file with the negative than make the final enlargements on fibrebased graded paper.

Since it's quick to use and wash I find it great for this use.

It's good "paper", and I for one am glad that I can still get it.

Clarifying my earler comments about Ilfospeed the stock in Chile was fresh, the paper envelopes for Multigrade are marked Filter where the large Ilford Black name is normally placed, and Ilford on the small product label.

My local stockist probably sells very little paper, as both the Ilford & Forte papers are old stock, B&W film is fresh. But trying to buy modern films like Delta 100 & 400 is extremely difficult, it appears that everyone buys larger formats mail order from Europe or the US, and that's probably the same for paper too.

Ilfospeed, a Graded RC paper. B&H has and IIRC
Central Camera; not at Freestyle. I was surprised
to see a large selection of Oriental Graded RC at B&H
and Central. Is that something new from Oriental?

I was considering Ilfospeed for the large number of
negatives I need proof. First though I'll give that
Slavich SW a try. Dan
